COOMBS FAIR #104
It’s hard to believe that the Coombs Fair has been around for more than a century. This year marks the 104th(!) year of the fair, which celebrated its centennial in 2013. Canada had only been a country for 50 years when this fair started! Wow!
The Coombs Fair has always been a celebration of local agriculture and community, a tradition that has endured through two World Wars and 15 Prime Ministers of Canada.
You might not know it, but fair season actually begins with the Coombs Fair, also one of the largest 4-H shows on Vancouver Island. This even gives 4-H members their first opportunity of the season to display their projects and sharpen their skills before entering other fairs. This year’s them is the year of the Rabbit!
When it comes to activities at the Coombs Fair, there are too many to count, but some of them include arts and crafts, local livestock and garden produce, and an abundance of exhibits.
And yes, there are goats on the roof – who doesn’t want to see that?
